- Understanding and measuring the motion of animals can be difficult. Unlike cars, airplanes, and rockets, the motion of animals is very complex which makes it difficult to measure. Here we explore how technology can be used to measure the complex motion of a lizard jump.
- Watch the following video of a lizard jumping.
- Can you describe how the speed of the lizard is changing?
- Starting with the velocity versus time data?
- How do we map how the speed of the lizard is changing in time?
- Calculating acceleration from velocity and time graph is not very different from calculating velocity using distance and time data. While velocity is the change in displacement over a period of time, acceleration is the change in velocity over a period in time.
- Using the velocity and time data for the lizard jump, calculate and plot the acceleration for each time period.
